About
Sneha Bhavan is a registered Non-Governmental Organization run by the committed Salesian Sisters who are concerned about the welfare of the female drugs abusers and deprived children. It is the developmental wings of the Salesian sisters of Guwahati Province. Sneha Bhavan is the brain child Sr.Tresa Karot, the Secretary of the institution. Till the early part of the 1990’s, she is popularly known was involved with the education of the students in Little Flower School Imphal, the premier institution for education of the girl child. But the prevailing plight of many young women in the state who had taken the step to the ‘Road to Hell’ and were helplessly getting drowned deeper into the vortex yet clutching to even a straw to be saved stirred touched her to the core. She discovered at that moment, that her true calling was not in the academics but in reaching out and leading these young women back into the mainstream with a semblance of dignity. Sneha Bhavan (a home of love) was established on 12 August, 1994 to help young women to turn away from drugs and to adopt positive life styles through treatment, rehabilitation and institutional care with the objectives of giving quality services to the female drug users, widows and their children infected/affected with HIV/AIDS. With the growth of substance abusers, its mandate to support and help chemical dependant women through quality service. Sneha Bhavan is now the ‘home’ of the once excluded and exploited of the society. Sneha Bhavan continues to work relentlessly towards enriching lives of the female substance abusers, widows infected affected with HIV/AIDS and their deprived children. Initially, it was working without any assistance from outside but gradually since 1999, Sneha Bhavan is sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
